Sonia Jerez is currently enjoying a postdoc fellowship at Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL), Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, under the supervision of Dr. Ricardo M. Trigo. Her main activity develops within the project 'Evolution of North Atlantic Climate; the role of Blocking and Storm-tracks in the Past, Present and Future climate of Southern Europe (ENAC)'. Other tasks in which she is involved or collaborate relate to (1) evaluation of renewable energy resources from a high-resolution climate modeling basis, (2) wild-fire modeling, and (3) paleo-geological and air-quality studies with links to the large-scale climate variability.
Before coming to the IDL, she was carrying out her Ph.D. in the 'Regional Atmospheric Modeling' group at the University of Murcia, where she became highly familiarized with the use of Regional Climate Models (RCMs) for various applications: paleoclimate simulations, air quality assessments, and, mainly, climate change studies. Within this latter framework, she was particularly interested in the role of the parametrization schemes employed by RCMs to describe the subgrid processes.
